Welcome to Clayoquot Sound!
The wild and biologically rich Clayoquot Sound is a vast area on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Encompassing the town of Tofino and four First Nations reserves, the region includes a maze of mountains, rivers, lakes, marine areas and offshore islands. In 1993, the name Clayoquot became known worldwide when a massive protest thwarted attempts to log in the area's ancient rain forests. With the support of local First Nations, surrounding communities, and the three levels of government, Clayoquot Sound was later designated as the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The reserve is dedicated to conservation, sustainable development, and support for research, education and training. It is also a unique, eco-friendly tourist attraction, featuring a network of hiking trails, beaches and breathtaking boat tours. Two well-known parks lie in Clayoquot Sound: the Long Beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park, and the southern portion of Strathcona Provincial Park. Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is located in the transition zone of the Biosphere Reserve Area and governed by its environmental policies and spirit.Tour Operators
