    Maritime Discovery Centre
    Alberni Valley Heritage Network

    This museum tells the maritime tales of such west coast destinations as Alberni Valley, Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound. The educational and hands-on exhibits change regularly. Open from mid June to early September. The Maritime Discovery Centre is located just south of Harbour Quay.

    McLean Mill National Historic Site
    Alberni Valley Heritage Network

    The McLean Mill National Historic Site is home to the only steam-operated sawmill in Canada. Visitors are transported back in time to the exciting era of the lumber industry in Port Alberni through sawing demonstrations, stage shows and historic buildings like the one-room schoolhouse. A cafe and banquet facilities are available on-site. The mill is located on forested land just 8 km (5 mi) northwest of Port Alberni.

    Bill Proctor's Museum & Gift Shop
    Bill Proctor's Museum and Gift Shop, located at Proctor Bay around the corner from Echo Bay, is an informal collection of local artifacts and historical pieces. Author of two local books, Bill Proctor welcomes visitors between 10am and 5pm, and is easily reached from the Echo Bay Provincial Park.

    U'mista Cultural Centre
    This museum in Alert Bay houses the Potlatch Collection, which consists of masks and other artifacts belonging to the Kwakwaka'wakw people. Many of the artifacts date back to the 1870s.

    Old School Museum and Visitor Information Centre
    This restored building was once a one-room schoolhouse (circa 1905) that operated until 1948. Today guests to the Old School Museum may view artifacts and information about pioneer and smelter life, as well as visit the gift gallery and the area's tourism information centre.

    The Museum at Campbell River
    The Museum at Campbell River brings history to life with a wide selection of artifacts and interactive exhibits. Uncover the rich culture of the First Nations people that originally inhabited northern Vancouver. The museums theatre offers historic film footage of the historic "Ripple Rock" explosion in nearby Seymour Narrows.     Hatley Park Castle and Museum

    The Vancouver Island Paleontology Museum
    Visit the Vancouver Island Paleontology Museum to discover one of the most complete collections of Vancouver Island fossils around. Exhibits include fossils that lived during the Mesozoic times. Perhaps the museums most prized display, "Rambling Rosie" is a skeleton of a 60,000 year-old female walrus, discovered just 10 km north of Qualicum Beach. Rosie measures eight feet long and five feet wide and is arguable one of the best preserved Ice Age walruses around. The museum is open from ,id-July to early-October.
