This 56 hectare park is the beloved home of various birds, including the belted kingfish and the great blue heron. An entrancing waterfall, woodland, a lagoon and a sandy beach are also on the park site. Open year round.

Piper's Lagoon Park

Piper's Lagoon Park is a piece of land loosely resembling a smoking pipe and is almost completely surrounded by water. Totaling 8 hectares (20 acres) the park has many look-out areas to enjoy sunsets over the water, sailing regattas or ocean wildlife.

Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park

This park is well-known for its fantastic caving opportunities in a network of natural caves, without route markings or lights. A range of guided tours for families and adventure-seekers are also available. A trail from the parking area leads across a suspension bridge over the Big Qualicum River to the Caving Centre. The park is a great place for hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, cycling and picnicking too and there is a day-use area featuring a shallow swimming area.

North Island Wildlife Recovery Association

Marvel at such creatures as eagles, raccoons, hawks and owls at this home for the injured or orphaned. Open to the public for wildlife viewing from April until October. Guided tours for groups are possible, but require advanced booking.

White Ridge Provincial Park

Named for the white limestone that is a prominent throughout, White Ridge Provincial Park features old-growth forest and an extensive cave system. Hunting is allowed in certain areas and caving is only recommended for those with experience. Hikers are urged to take caution on the user-made paths.

Dawley Passage Provincial Park

Flanked by Meares Island and the west coast of Vancouver Island, this provincial park lies in the Fortune Channel and is accessible by boat only. Visitors to Dawley Passage Provincial Park can enjoy great canoeing, kayaking and boating experiences. Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations heritage sites may also be viewed. The park is surrounded by diverse marine life, making it an excellent spot for scuba diving. Year round wilderness camping is permitted.

Benson Creek Falls Regional Park

A 22-hectare (55-acre) forested park located on the lower western slopes of Mt. Benson above Brannen Lake. The steep ravines of Benson and Flynnfall Creeks dissect the park. The park's terrain can be difficult, however, those that visit will find informal trails through the forest, and two sets of waterfalls on Benson Creek. Caution is advised, particularly on the steep trails and when crossing the main creeks as there are no bridges in place.

Somenos Marsh Bird Sanctuary

Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation cultural sites, protected Sitka spruce trees, out-of-the-way beaches and the largest fresh water lake on Vancouver Island are some of the features of this park. Potential activities include waterskiing, swimming or windsurfing on Kennedy Lake, watching Sockeye salmon spawn, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and hiking. Visitors may be able to view, but must also remain cautious of, the black bears, wolves and cougars that are often present in the park.

D'Arcy Island Marine Park

Used as a leprosy colony for 30 years beginning in 1894, there is now a plaque commemorating the men sent to D'Arcy Island. In total, 49 men-48 of whom were Chinese-were sent here and ruins of the colony are still visible. The island is now a marine park used for picnics, camping, fishing, kayaking and snorkelling. It is part of the Gulf Island National Park Reserve.

Visitors to the area, which is an important habitat for black bears, may enjoy fishing in the White River and hunting in designated areas.

This undeveloped provincial marine park is located in the Cormorant Channel, north of Alert Bay. Popular activities include fishing, diving and kayaking. The park is accessible by private boat from Alert Bay or Telegraph Cove.
Artlish Caves Provincial Park

This rugged 234 hectare park protects Vancouver Island's last remaining, undisturbed karst unit incorporating a major river cave. Although a wonderful and spectacular place to hike on non-maintained forest routes, caving is not currently permitted due to the fragility of the area. Roosevelt Elk, Black Bears, five species of salmon, and old growth Sitka spruce thrive in the park. Located 9 km (6 mi) northwest of Zeballos, access is via the Zeballos Forest Service road, off Hwy 19, north of Woss. Logging trucks have the right of way.

Flores Island Provincial Park

The 10km Walk the Wild Side Trail from Ahousat village to Cow Bay is one of many potential activities in this park. The trail was originally used by the area's First Nations people to access sandy beaches on the island's west side. Along with the trail hiking, fishing, kayaking, beach camping and watching grey whales during their annual migration have made this park a very popular spot for visitors.

Qualicum National Wildlife Area - Nanoose Unit

The Qualicum National Wildlife Area is composed of three areas, one of which is located at the western end of Nanoose Harbour. The area is 34 hectares, 14 of which are tidal. Mudflats, marine spits, wet meadows and marshes compose the terrain, which is frequented by more than 190 different types of animals (birds comprising the biggest portion at around 131). Many of the species can be seen through out the year, but some are more abundant during winter or migration (eg. bald eagles in January). The vegetation is also spectacular, with over 200 species of plants.

Petroglyph Provincial Park

Located at the south end of Nanaimo, where the Nanaimo River empties into the Northumberland Channel, Petroglyph Park is the site of hundreds of native carvings, called petroglyphs. The park encompasses two hectares of land and features carvings of mythological sea creatures, human figures, animals symbolic to the native inhabitants and more. No facilities are provided at this park.

Stamp River Provincial Park

This 327-hectare park is an amalgamation of Stamp Falls and Money’s Pool provincial parks. Lovely waterfalls and several scenic trails are features of Stamp River. In August and December, watch the spectacular run of thousands of Pacific salmon as they jump up the ladders to their spawning beds.

This provincial park is a stunningly beautiful example of the Strait of Juan de Fuca's Pacific coastline. It offers spectacular hiking, home to the 47 km (29 mi) Juan de Fuca Marine Trail and the popular West Coast Trail, and marine and wildlife viewing. The 707 hectare park is home to the China Beach Campground, and Botanical Beach: an excellent tide pool viewing spot.

Visitors to this isolated, rustic park just east of Port Hardy can do a day hike or longer backpacking excursion. Activities include beach camping, surfing, fishing and hiking.
Sproat Lake Provincial Park

Located in the Alberni Valley, this lake sees a lot of activity – besides many visitors, it is the runway for the huge Martin Mars water bombers that hurry off to extinguish forest fires. Sproat Lake's warm water attracts many swimmers, water skiers, wind surfers and anglers. Hiking trails exist, one leading to a prehistoric petroglyph, K'ak'awin, which is assumed to be a mythical marine creature. A large public marina, triple boat launch and campsites are also situated in the park.

At 10,972ha, Tahsish-Kwois is one of the largest provincial parks on Vancouver Island. Milner Gardens and Woodland

Newcastle Island became a Provincial Marine Park in 1961, when the nearby city of Nanaimo granted it to the province after having acquired the island from the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1955. Situated in Nanaimo Harbour, Newcastle Island possesses a rich natural and cultural history. The island's shoreline is dominated by steep sandstone cliffs and ledges with some sandy gravel beaches. There are many caves and caverns along the shoreline, providing an appealing contrast to the upland that is covered with Douglas-fir, Arbutus, Garry Oak and Dogwood trees.

Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park

This Estate was the home of the late Robert J. (Bob) Filberg and his wife Florence (McCormack). Master builder William Hagarty supervised the building of the Lodge, which commenced with the clearing of the land in 1929. Sequoia Park

Located next to the Campbell River Museum, a large Sequoia tree overlooks the Discovery Passage. The park provides a good vantage point from which to view Cape Mudge First Nations Village and the lighthouse on Quadra Island, as well as passing cruise ships. The ceremonial Torii Gate is also situated in Sequoia Park. A stairway leading down to the water's edge provides access to natural caves formed in the embankment.

Fishing, swimming and paddling are permitted at Matheson Lake and the 3km (1.9mi) Matheson Trail is good for walking. In addition, the Galloping Goose Trail runs through the park and can be used by hikers, joggers, cyclists and horseback riders.

Located just south of Quadra Island, Mitlenatch Island, meaning calm water all around in Coast , is accessible only by boat. This provincial nature park encompasses 36 hectares of land, 119 hectares of water and contains the largest seabird colony in the Strait of Georgia. The park boundary extends 300 metres (1000 ft) from the shore, protecting all marine life within this area. This park is extremely ecologically sensitive and visitors are not permitted to leave the trails, nor are bikes permitted.

This marine park is located on the Strait of Georgia, between the islands of Lasqueti and Texada. Paddlers or boaters can access the park from the shores near Nanoose Bay. Swimming in the bay on the northeast side of the park is pleasant. A truly majestic experience is to wilderness camp on the island (but please do not leave a trace).
